Society of Graphical Fine Art Open Exhibition

Lichen Drawing of Ramalina Fastigiata

In the world of art, 2022 and 2023 were two remarkable years as I had the privilege of participating in the renowned SGFA (Society of Graphical Fine Art) Open Exhibitions. These prestigious events unfolded at the Mall Galleries in London, providing a platform to showcase my artistic creations alongside a vibrant community of fellow artists.

Botanical Artist in Gallery

A Dual Presence in 2022: In March 2022, I celebrated the selection of two of my charcoal drawings, 'Early Life' and 'Life Unfurling,' for the SGFA Annual Open Exhibition. The private view was a bustling affair, graced by a rousing and inspirational speech by Adedanji Alade, also known as The Addictive Sketcher. His words resonated deeply, for art collectors to embrace and support the world of art.

The drawings I exhibited offered an intimate glimpse into the intricate world of lichen found in the lanes of my village. 'Early Life' captured the essence of Ramalina fastigiata lichen, while 'Life Unfurling' celebrated Parmotrema lichen. Both pieces were painstakingly created using compressed charcoal pencils on Fabriano Artistico 300gsm hot press paper.

‘Colossus’ Charcoal Drawing 2023

The Colossal Moment of 2023: My drawing practice continued to flourish in 2023 when my drawing 'Colossus' earned its place in the SGFA 2023 Open Exhibition. The private view was yet another lively affair, offering a valuable opportunity to connect with fellow exhibiting artists.

'Colossus' stands as a testament to the grandeur of nature, featuring a magnificent chestnut tree located on the Cowdray Estate in West Sussex. The drawing was meticulously crafted using compressed charcoal pencils on Fabriano Artistico 300gsm hot press paper.

Following its appearance at the exhibition, 'Colossus' found a new home for display at Linleys in Belgravia, offering art enthusiasts and connoisseurs the opportunity to appreciate this monumental creation up close.
